Galway is located in the middle of Ireland’s Atlantic coast, squeezed between the unique limestone landscape of the Burren to the south and the beauty of Connemara to the north. From medieval origins as a fishing and trading port, it has become one of Ireland’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities, with bustling arts and nightlife. Galway is home to a University, an Institute of Technology, one of the world’s densest medtech industry clusters, and a thriving technology startup culture.
Our town has been voted the world’s friendliest city and Europe’s best microcity. It will be the European Region of Gastronomy in 2018 and European Capital of Culture in 2020. If you come back a few weeks after the SPHERIC Workshop, you could catch the famous Arts Festival. Don’t take our word for it – here’s what Lonely Planet has to say about Galway. More information and listings are available at Discover Ireland to help you plan your visit.
